Testimonial: I umpired your team game at the Toronto Cricket Club couple of weeks ago. I was impressed with the team unity and friendlyness. Please let me know if I can be part of your team. Saleem Zafar (Treasurer of Toronto Cricket umpires & Scorers Association - TCUSA) May, 2010

The word Ghaznavi is derived (right or wrong?) from the Persian word ‘Ghazi’ which means Winners - all teams in our club tries to WIN games and people's hearts.
Not believing in segregation, Ghaznavi current roster of almost 70 active cricketers is from the Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and West Indies (5) speaking English, Bengali, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, Bengali, Konkani, Tamil and Sindhi (10).
We have SIX teams play in the Premier, First (two teams), Second, Third and Fourth divisions of the most elite Canadian league "Toronto District Cricket Association (TDCA)”. TDCA is also the oldest & largest cricket league in North America.
2001-Present:
| What a start: By the grace of Almighty, we created history by winning the league championship of 3rd and 2nd division in our first two years of existence ('01 & '02) beating young and spirited teams of West Indian and Thorncliffe Boys, respectively. That promoted team of 2002, has been playing in 1st division since '03. | |
| The 3rd Division: We opened a 3rd division team in 2003. Our 3rd division team in TDCA reached the playoffs in 2006 and lost by 21 runs a low scoring first round game. We became 3rd Division regular season champs in 2010 and 2011 (two consecutive years) and promoted to 2nd Division. | |
| Acquisitions: We acquired a 2nd Division team in mid 2007 and have had good campaigns in the first 4 full years (2008, 09, 10 and 11). We acquired a Premier team in 2011 and won 4 games in our first year. In 2012, we acquired a second First Division team. | |
| The 4th Division: We started a team in a newly created 4th division in 2008 and were the champions of the regular season, unfortunately losing a close semi final to eventual champions (Spartan Superstars) by 20 odd runs. In 2009, our 4th division again were (again) regular season champions and this time lost the finals to a young team of Toronto Cheetahs. | |
| T20: In the first year of TDCA T20, we reached the 2nd round and hence finished among the Top-6 T20 teams of 2010. We again made the Super-8 of T20 in 2011 | |
| T25: For 3 years (2009-11), we participated in T25 Championship in Hamilton. Lost the finals in 2009 but won 2010 and 2011 finals. .http://thescca.com/ |
In our 11 years in TDCA, we have had six promotions to higher divisions and no relegations, Alhamdullillah.
In TDCA, we have won 30 individual league-awards (7 batting and 23 bowling) in the 11 years we have been playing in TDCA (2001-2011).
1994-2001:
The Ghazis played (as Royals) in all divisions of Scarborough Cricket Association (SCA) - the 2nd biggest league in Canada (at that time). In 7 years, our two Royal teams lost four finals (three 20-overs and one 50-overs) and missed making the playoffs once ('01).
However, in SCA too, we won the championship in our very first year ('94) overwhelming a very talented Scarborough Indians team. In SCA we won at least 2 individual awards every year we played there (19 individual awards – 5 batting, 4 MVPs and 10 bowling in 7 years).
During the season this site is updated almost daily. During off-season (our winter-hiatus, Oct1-Jan31) we try to update twice a month . Current statistics and detailed scorecards of the TDCA years (01-10) can be found through TDCA web page (www.cricketstar.net/tdca).
Best wishes and prayers for all gentlemen cricketers and hats off to all the championship and individual award winners of the past. For everyone else there is always next year!!!
Playing cricket TOGETHER since Mar'93, NOT OUT in the Toronto leagues (May '94). on the web since Oct '01 - that's the “Ghazis”...
