The word Ghaznavi is derived from the Persian word Ghazi which means Winners - our team tries to WIN games and people's hearts. Not believing in segregation, Ghaznavi's current roster of 45 active cricketers is from Bangladesh, Jamaica, Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan (5) speaking English, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, Bengali, Konkani, and Sindhi (8). We play in the first, third and fourth divisions of the elite Toronto District Cricket Association (TDCA) league, the oldest & largest cricket league in North America.
2001-Present:
By the grace of Almighty, we created history by winning the league championship in our first two years of existence ('01 & '02) beating young and spirited teams of West Indian and Thorncliffe Boys, respectively. Our 3rd division team in TDCA also reached the playoffs in 2006 and lost by 21 runs a low scoring first round game.
We opened a 3rd division team in 2003 and start a 4th division team in 2008.
In TDCA, we have won 10 individual league-awards (2 batting and 8 bowling) in the 7 years we have been playing here (2001-2007).
1994-2001:
The Ghazis played (as Royals) in all divisions of Scarborough Cricket Association (SCA) - the 2nd biggest league in Canada. In 7 years, our two Royal teams lost four finals (three 20-overs and one 50-overs) and missed making the playoffs once ('01). However, in SCA too, we won the championship in our very first year ('94) overwhelming a very talented Scarborough Indians team. In SCA we won at least 2 individual awards every year we played there('94-'01).
During the season this site is updated almost daily. During off-season (our winter-hiatus, Oct1-Jan31) we try to update twice a month . Current statistics and detailed scorecards of the TDCA years (01-07) can be found through TDCA web page (www.cricketstar.net/tdca).
When updating any other links, we announce through our Cover Page. Our "Forums" is updated as often as you (our most valued visitor) want it to (we will approve and publish ALL non-derogatory, cricket related and even anonymous messages)......
Best wishes and prayers for all gentlemen cricketers and hats off to all the championship and individual award winners of the past. For everyone else there is always next year !!!
Playing cricket TOGETHER since Mar'93, NOT OUT in the Toronto leagues (May '94). on the web since Oct '01 - that's us...
